Rachael Bartram

Rachael Bartram is a Queensland-based visual artist who creates work with a strong focus on both studio process and concept. Collage and drawing are intrinsic to her practice, with mixed media and video also forming significant channels in work. Rachael’s work explores issues of gender, identity, self-awareness and reflexivity. Her use and manipulation of found imagery is underpinned by the contrasting events of both modern history and the world today. Through collage Rachael switches between fictional and non-fictional structures and in doing so, creates scenes that appear like ‘interrupted realities’. Many of these scenes interconnect through a common thread or concept. Others offer the viewer an insight into a world of banal, humorous, introspective and strange situations.

Rachael attended the Queensland College of Art (Griffith University) and graduated in 2010 with a first-class honours degree in Visual Media and Fine Art. To date Rachael has participated in a number of group shows, events and exhibitions across the SE Queensland region. In 2012 she was awarded funding through the RADF program to commence work on her first major solo project Lost Girls, Strong Girls and the Assembled Image (Arts Queensland/GCCC). The project focused on the visual re-interpretation of the female protagonist’s ‘journey’ and changeable profile. Through the use of collage and video, Rachael’s Lost Girls… exhibition (White Canvas Gallery 2013) mirrored parts of her own experiences into the work whilst also challenging the viewer to question and identify the unseen lone woman.

Now living and working in Brisbane, Rachael Bartram continues to further develop her emerging art practice. This website will act as a platform for viewing the artist’s portfolio as well as work/projects in progress.
